johnny depp...i'll take it

finally a workable definition of genealogy - the study of what celebrities you most resemble. research yourself at http://www.myheritage.com/. they scan a picture and compare your face structure to a database of past and present famous names. i got a 66% match with johnny depp. i admit i didn't see it at first (note: i'm not a member of mr. depp's sex) but after i googled the following images i am in total agreement.

miserably belated earth day

i missed earth day. i was driving a station wagon around the city. but the day before i went to www.gocarbonzero.org and found out that for $73 dollars they would plant 13 trees to offset the amount of carbon dioxide i put into the atmosphere each year. would it be pretty much the same thing if i buy a wood coffee table from craigslist, well same spirit + i get something.

now i know

i've learned so much this weekend. now i can answer the following inquiries. (should i have my own column? oh wait, i already have a blog that nobody reads.)

Q: where is the best place to get interesting and affordable plates and cups?
A: at BAM - broadway antique market, they have great sets from the 40's - 70's, same price point as target but way higher quality and much more character.

Q: what club has the best private room?
A: red i in chinatown. a private karaoke room with a giant red leather wrap around couch and huge screen tv. go outside your room for some drum and base action and to rest your voice. (avoid ordering hard to pronounce dirnks such as whis-key gin-ger-ale)

Q: what is your idea of a perfect engagement ring?
A: skip the diamond and save the money, get a vintage deco ring with an emerald or sapphire stone. around $1500.

best of the best

www.viceland.com - maybe annoyingly hipster but also chock full of cool info and always good pictures
www.corpse.com - hands down best writing magazine

www.ohmyrockness.com - a filtered way to look for shows
www.pandora.com - possibly greatest reason to be online, a custom radio station

writing on the walls - coming soon

usually when i discover that one of my brilliant and original ideas is, in fact, in wide use, i am disappointed. this time i couldn't be happier. i have been dreaming of an entire wall of chalkboard -actually an entire kitchen of green and black squares - and now i find out i could have an entire house (how terrible that would be) but what an exciting option. benjamin moore makes chalkboard paint so as soon as i do this i will put up a picture (in other terribly exciting events i have found a way too glamorous apartment for a recent college grad, although it may look much more dorm room esque after i have my way with the walls.)

japanese girls have the best hair

i know it's wrong to make such a stereotype but they just do. there must be some very logical explanation for it but it's over my head. i just saw the fabulously intense Asobi Seksu and was mesmorized by the front woman who was flipping her perfect japan head so well while pounding her keyboard that i can only conclude that she has perfected her moves in front of many a mirror.

i went to this show upon the suggestion of my trusty flavorpill email and while i was expecting a very different show (they made a big to do about a late night noir lounge act) i cannot be upset with them. although an additional revelation to tokyo hair was that maybe i have something in common with the folks at flavorpill in that we are both prone to whole heartedly recommended things we have yet to experience. luckily are critics are also our friends.

countdown to the egg hunt

only a few days of training left for the infant category. maybe someone could explain "tapering" to her.
