in his most popular works, Warhol is commenting on our nation's obsession with both celebrity and tragedy. but aren't they one in the same. Marilyn, Jackie, and Elvis where his icons for fame even before they became icons for tragedy. i have much better feelings about AW knowing he was obsessed with our nation’s guilty obsessions but i remain unconvinced of his artistic ability and i hate when art has to be explained. plus i really wanted to punch him (well really the actor who played him) in Basquiat.

there is an exhibit at the mca - supernova (the explosion that results from the death of a star, aren't they clever) www.mcachicago.org

your voice is shit, now sing!

now i know that this show is going on it's 407th season and that this is terribly old information for millions of idol fans, but i just caught the end of the most recent episode and i am in shock. while it is standard reality format to tell people they are losers, there could be nothing more humiliating then the idol method, telling someone they can't sing and then two seconds later demanding that they prove it. i must remember this tactic.

in case you need to remind yourself that your voice is shit you can go to http://www.cheerioke.com/ and watch a cartoon version of yourself belt out your idol tune.

it's hard out there for the television viewer

the best part about the oscars is that there is nothing wrong about being a totally harsh critic. we know these people have had plenty of time - planning their outfits for months, plenty of help - stylists, hair and makeup, they have no excuse not to look their best. and when they are up on stage i expect to be entertained, if p.s. hoffman can't give an amazing two minute speech who can? and jon stewart, he's professional funny man - i want to laugh out loud. all in all, the 78th was pretty disappointing or maybe i am just bitter because i lost my 5 dollars to someone who went online to find the odds.
